Jun 15, 2021

West Bend, WI – U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) President and Founder Tim Schmidt hosted an online broadcast with U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), lead sponsor of the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (S.1522) that will allow responsible individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state with concealed carry laws.  As a concealed carry permit holder, father and avid outdoorsman and hunter, Senator Cornyn touched on the importance of upholding the right to self-defense, especially as Texas is home to millions of responsibly-armed Americans who cherish the ability to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The USCCA is working hard to drive support for national concealed carry reciprocity, launching an online petition this year that garnered over 300,000 signatures in favor of the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R.38), which is the House counterpart to Senator Cornyn’s bill.  This year, Schmidt has penned two op-eds in The Hill newspaper as well as Townhall.com in which he outlined the importance of Congress finally addressing concealed carry reciprocity instead of more failed anti-gun laws.  In addition, Schmidt has penned a letter to President Biden on behalf of almost 600,000 USCCA members expressing the importance of national concealed carry reciprocity and protecting gun rights for all Americans.

The USCCA remains committed to meeting the growing demand for firearm safety and training as gun sales and the number of first-time purchasers climb in Texas and across the nation.  As of last month, the USCCA reached a total of 47,263 members and almost 530 instructors in the state of Texas.  In 2020 alone, the organization trained an estimated 5,240 students in Texas out of 92,950 students across the nation.  Today, USCCA instructors and range partners are more active than ever, with over 2,000 new USCCA instructors joining the ranks of 10,000 instructors across the country in the last year alone.
